Open Houses of Faith - 2007 |

Before
You Go . . . Know
when and where. Dates
and times for each Open Houses of Faith (OHOF) event are given on the Scheduled
Events page, as are direct
links to maps and directions for most events.
Feel free to print them out. This site will be updated as new
events are added. Be prepared. Do
a little research by browsing websites about the religion, as well as
for the hosting congregation, temple or group. See the Links
page or call the host community for help with this. Some religions require that you remove your
shoes before entering. Some require head coverings for men, some require
them for women and others for everyone. For
some faith communities it is customary for women to wear skirts or
dresses. Some faiths do not use chairs or pews, so you sit on the floor.
You may want to wear loafers or slip-on shoes, nice socks and
have a cap or scarf available if you are unsure. Ask questions! Each
open house allows time for questions, so you may want to think of some
ahead of time. Any question
is fair, if asked out of genuine curiosity. Be respectful! Faith
is a personal issue. If your beliefs conflict with those presented at an
Open House, please avoid being confrontational or combative. Do not
argue with your hosts or try to convert them. Enjoy yourself! Each
Open House will be fun and educational for the whole family. For those who
visit multiple Open Houses… There
is an Open Houses of Faith patch available to youth who visit multiple
Open Houses. Check the Patch
Program link for requirements.
The Open Houses of Faith is a program for the general public, coordinated by Girl Scout volunteers as a service to the community. |
